Item regains are possible, but are more difficult - that, and they can only be done if they were something your character was carrying at the moment of their capture. The characters enabling regains don't have any ability to easily travel to people's homeworlds. But if it's wanting something like a weapon your character was carrying when they were caught, that can be arranged.
